Building a Stronger Herriman: A Vision for the Future
Herriman is a city on the rise, and over the past four years, significant progress has been made in enhancing infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and preserving the unique character that makes this community a great place to call home. Under Mayor Lorin Palmer’s leadership, the city has tackled key challenges head-on, ensuring smart growth while prioritizing quality of life for all residents. With a strong foundation in place, the next four years present an opportunity to build upon these successes and continue moving Herriman forward.
Infrastructure: Investing in the City’s Future
As Herriman continues to grow, improving infrastructure remains a top priority. Strategic investments have been made to enhance mobility, increase services, and bring more jobs closer to home—reducing long commute times and improving everyday life.
Over the past four years, major projects have been completed, including the extension of 13200 S and 13800 S into Riverton and Bluffdale, and the successful lobbying of UDOT to fast-track the transformation of Mountain View Corridor into a freeway by 2027. Efforts to improve public transportation resulted in securing a new UTA bus route, providing better connectivity for residents. Additionally, a crucial agreement was finalized to ensure the completion of Juniper Crest prior to any new development in the area, with work expected to begin in Spring 2025.
Moving forward, Mayor Palmer is committed to overseeing the completion of Juniper Crest and pursuing innovative solutions to ease congestion on 12600 S and 13400 S between Mountain View Corridor and Bangerter Highway. Expanding transit options and adding more local job centers will continue to be priorities, ensuring that residents have opportunities to work closer to home. By recruiting more businesses and services, the goal is to make Herriman a self-sustaining community where people can find what they need without leaving the city.
Economic Development: Strengthening Herriman’s Business Landscape
A thriving economy is essential for a prosperous community, and Mayor Palmer has been instrumental in driving business growth in Herriman. Over the past four years, sales tax revenue has increased by 50%, providing critical funding for city services while reducing the tax burden on residents. Major commercial developments have been announced, including The Commons at Herriman Town Center, set to become a key hub for shopping and dining.
Significant growth is also expected in Anthem, Mountain View Plaza, the auto mall, and Academy Village, solidifying Herriman’s role as a regional destination for commerce. Looking ahead, Mayor Palmer is committed to seeing these projects through to completion while also finalizing a comprehensive plan for commercial development in the Olympia area. Attracting more businesses and creating destination experiences will bring visitors into the city—boosting local businesses and strengthening Herriman’s economy.
Parks, Trails, and Open Space: Preserving What Makes Herriman Special
One of Herriman’s greatest assets is its natural beauty and access to outdoor recreation. Over the past four years, new trails have been added, including a large trailhead near Butterfield Canyon, enhancing recreational opportunities for residents. Additionally, efforts to protect open space led to securing land in partnership with Camp Williams and other stakeholders, ensuring that parts of Herriman Hills remain preserved from residential development.
The focus for the next four years will be on expanding both primitive and urban trails, increasing bike lanes for better connectivity, and working with partners to create more field space for Herriman’s growing population of young athletes. By continuing to invest in parks and outdoor amenities, the city can maintain its high quality of life and reputation as a great place for families and outdoor enthusiasts.
Additional Priorities: Transparency, Connectivity, and Responsible Growth
Beyond infrastructure and economic development, Mayor Palmer is committed to strengthening transparency and public engagement. The Herrimanology podcast was launched to keep residents informed, and efforts are underway to increase neighborhood meetings, making city leadership more accessible.
Reliable internet access is another critical component of a thriving city. While rising interest rates delayed plans for a municipal fiber network, a new partnership with All West Communications is now bringing fiber-optic connectivity to Herriman. Efforts will continue to expand high-speed internet access to all residents, ensuring Herriman remains competitive in a digital world.
As growth continues, ensuring responsible development remains a key focus. While the city does not build housing, working towards solutions that support homeownership and long-term community investment is essential. Herriman is nearly fully entitled, meaning most land is already designated for residential or commercial use. However, creative solutions will be explored to help more residents achieve homeownership, with a strong emphasis on single-family homes owned by the residents who live in them.
A Vision for the Next Four Years
Herriman has come a long way, but the work is far from over. Mayor Lorin Palmer remains dedicated to smart growth, a strong economy, and preserving the city’s unique character. By continuing to invest in infrastructure, support local businesses, enhance recreational opportunities, and foster responsible development, the next four years will build upon the momentum already in place.
